Reunions: Year of 1959

Past pupils of the Year of ’59 organised a reunion for the former entry classes of 1959 at the Dolphin Hotel on Friday 30th October 2009. Their original invite (see below) resulted in forty-two Old Dy’vorians and five former masters taking part.

During the evening Dave Tovey’s Photo Story display of photographs fueled the nostalgic memories while Noel Blows’ collection of Adrian Davies’ excellent caricatures of the former school’s staff provoked further comments.

The Webmaster is grateful for Rob Mitchell’s photographic record of the evening and these images can be accessed below. Should you require 5″ x 7″ copies of any of the photographs, these can be obtained from Phil Stone at a cost of £3.00 each. Just quote the website image numbers of the photographs that you require.

Reunion Invite

Dear Old Dy’vorian

Believe it or not, 2009 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the year in which you and I with about 150 contemporaries began our studies at Dynevor Grammar School. To mark this auspicious occasion, a reunion is being organised for that intrepid cohort of pupils who entered Dynevor for the first time in the autumn term of 1959. This special anniversary gives us an opportunity to rekindle old friendships and relive our younger, dafter days in the company of those who were at school with us in the sixties.

The reunion will take place on Friday 30th October at The Dolphin Hotel, Swansea, to begin at 6:30 and end when the bar closes – which will be late! There will be a buffet, although school dinners will not be served. We anticipate a charge of about £15 per head to cover costs of catering and room hire.

I very much hope that you can come along and be part of this unique gathering. If you are able to come, please help us to expedite arrangements for the evening by replying as soon as possible to my postal address or click here to send me an e-mail message.

Should you require overnight accommodation, this can be arranged by contacting The Dolphin Hotel on 01792 650011.

Although we know the names of all the boys in the Autumn Term intake of 1959, there are many whose contact details we do not have. If you can, please forward this message to anyone in our year group who is known to you but who may not be aware of our reunion.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing you, and many more of our contemporaries, on the night of Friday 30th October.

Kind regards
